TRAINING FOR EVERYDAY LIFE

A CLEAR PLAN FOR YOUR DOG

Everyday manners.
Clear communication.

Start with the routines that matter to you. We’ll work on clear cues, useful habits, and the handling skills that help you and your dog understand each other. The aim is a plan you can use at home and on walks, with manageable practice between lessons.

  • Training plans tailored to your dog
  • Practical routines for home and walks
  • Gradual practice around distractions

For the dog you live with.
And the life you share.

These lessons can suit an adolescent dog learning everyday manners, an adult dog starting with the basics, or a dog whose familiar skills need practice in new settings. You do not need a dog who already knows what to do before asking for help.

Bring the moments you want to make easier, such as getting out the door, greeting a guest, or walking past a distraction. If fear, intense reactions, or distress when left alone is the main concern, tell Emily when you inquire so you can discuss the right kind of support.

Skills that make a difference every day

Your goals shape the lessons. You can focus on a few priorities instead of treating this as a checklist your dog must complete.

Loose-leash walking
Practice walking together without constant tension on the leash. Begin in an easy setting, reward comfortable steps, and build toward the routes you use every day.
Coming when called
Build a clear recall cue and make returning to you worthwhile. Start close by in a secure space, with a leash or long line for outdoor practice as appropriate.
Polite greetings
Choose a manageable greeting routine, such as keeping four paws on the floor. Practice with planned arrivals before expecting the same response when visitors surprise you.
Settling nearby
Help your dog become comfortable on a bed or mat while you go about a quiet activity. Work toward useful pauses at home without expecting instant calm in a busy setting.
Everyday cues
Give familiar words like sit, down, and wait a clear meaning. Learn when to ask, what to reward, and how to release your dog so the exercise has a clear beginning and end.
Attention around distractions
Practice reconnecting with you when there is something else to notice. Adjust the setting and distance so your dog can learn, rather than jumping straight into the busiest situation.

Learn it together.
Use it in real life.

Start with your routine

Share your dog’s age, experience, and the situations you want help with. Emily can help choose a useful starting point and discuss a suitable lesson location. In-home sessions are available in many Cape Cod towns, depending on scheduling and travel range.

Practice your part, too

You will work on cues, reward timing, and handling so you can use the skills yourself. Ask questions as you practice, including what to do when an exercise feels too hard or when you need to manage a situation without training.

Build from an easy version

Take clear steps home and practice in short sessions that fit your day. As a skill becomes more familiar, you can gradually change the setting, length of the exercise, or distractions. Share what is working and where you get stuck so the next steps fit your dog’s progress.

A LITTLE CLARITY BEFORE YOU BEGIN

obedience training.

Here are a few quick answers. If your dog’s needs are more specific, reach out and Emily will help you choose a useful next step.

How much does dog training cost?

Dog training pricing depends on the program and format. After a quick intake, we’ll recommend options and share clear prices.

Do you offer in-home dog training on Cape Cod?

Yes. In-home sessions are available in many towns based on schedule and travel range.

How long does training take?

The pace depends on your dog’s starting point, the skills you want to build, and practice between lessons. Emily can help set initial goals and adjust the plan as you work together.

What equipment do I need?

Usually a standard leash, a comfortable harness or flat collar, and treats. For recall work, we may recommend a long line.

THE LITTLE WINS MATTER

What progress
can look like.

Useful training shows up in the moments between lessons. Choose goals that make your daily routine easier for both you and your dog.
